About the role
The African Wildlife Foundation seeks an experienced Environmental Education and Communication Expert to design, deliver and monitor education and outreach programmes that promote human‑wildlife coexistence across 42 villages in the Ruvuma Landscape, Tanzania.
Key responsibilities
- Design and implement gender‑sensitive environmental education and conservation communication programmes for wildlife authorities and district councils.
- Revitalise the Malihai Club programme in schools, updating curricula, training teachers and supporting club activities.
- Develop and adapt curricula, edutainment content and communication materials in English and Swahili for rural audiences.
- Design and pilot community‑level education and communication interventions in at least 30 target villages.
- Facilitate sustainable financing and institutional arrangements for long‑term programme continuity.
- Coordinate with government officials, traditional leaders and community structures to align messaging and build local ownership.
- Strengthen media engagement on human‑wildlife conflict, including journalist training.
- Monitor, evaluate and report on the reach and effectiveness of all activities.
Required profile
- Proven experience in environmental education, conservation communication or related fields.
- Demonstrated ability to develop gender‑sensitive, community‑appropriate outreach materials.
- Experience working with wildlife authorities, district councils, schools and local communities.
- Strong monitoring and evaluation skills to assess programme impact.
- Fluency in English and Swahili.
