Environmental Advisor – Mining Site

About the role

The Environmental Advisor will lead the planning, execution, and reporting of all environmental monitoring and compliance activities on a mining operation. This role ensures that the site meets Tanzanian and international environmental standards while supporting sustainable rehabilitation and waste management initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and schedule water quality, biodiversity, noise, and vibration monitoring programmes.
• Develop, maintain, and update the Environmental Management System and related Standard Operating Procedures.
• Manage compliance against the Environmental Obligations Register and maintain all permits, licences, and legal registers.
• Design and implement site rehabilitation programmes throughout the life‑of‑mine.
• Oversee baseline surveys, long‑term monitoring, and control of feral animals, vermin, and weeds.
• Administer “Permit to clear” and “Disturbed land” registers, topsoil handling, and fauna records.
• Provide technical support and training to staff and contractors on best environmental practices.
• Lead waste management programmes, including hazardous waste handling, recycling, and segregation.
• Organise and support external consultants and contribute to the department’s annual budget.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years’ experience in environmental management, preferably in mining.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Tanzanian and international environmental regulations and ISO 14001 EMS implementation.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Environmental Management Software.
• Advanced MS Office skills.
• Experience using Acquire Database software.
• Knowledge of ISO 14001 environmental management system processes.
