Contract Engineer

About the role

An agricultural company, recruited through Shugulika Africa Limited, is looking for a Contract Engineer based in Dar es Salaam. The role manages contracts across all project phases, from tendering and negotiation through execution and close-out, ensuring compliance with legal, commercial and technical obligations and acting as a liaison between the company, contractors, clients and other stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare contract documentation, including variations and payments, and ensure adherence to contractual conditions.
• Identify risks and develop risk mitigation plans at every stage: pre-qualification, tendering/bidding, planning and procurement, execution and monitoring, closure and claims, and operation and maintenance.
• Develop and maintain client relationships.
• Ensure timely and accurate work measurement, billing, certification and collection.
• Handle identification, documentation and submission of claims and variations.
• Prepare documentation for Dispute Review Boards and arbitration.
• Maintain contract-compliant records across departments and record hindrances and reschedule physical and financial milestones.
• Work with site supervision consultants and contractors to recommend measures that prevent or minimise delays.
• Submit periodic reports on contract progress, including recommendations for improving delivery performance.

Required profile

• Master's degree in Project Management, Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering and Management with at least 5 years of experience; a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering or Architecture with at least 7 years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu.
• Qualified as a practicing engineer for at least 5 years in the country of residence.
• At least 5 years of proven experience in contract and construction/engineering management.
