Civil Engineer - Structural Design and Site Supervision

About the role

A client of Shugulika Africa Limited is looking for a highly skilled Civil Engineer to oversee the planning, execution and delivery of construction projects from design through completion. The role covers structural design review, site supervision, project scheduling, quality assurance, BOQ preparation and material planning, ensuring work is safe, efficient and on time.

Key responsibilities

• Review and verify structural drawings, construction designs and bar bending schedules before implementation.
• Supervise day-to-day construction to match approved drawings, specifications and quality standards.
• Plan, coordinate and monitor the project from design through completion and handover.
• Prepare method statements, QA/QC plans, BOQs, material schedules, cost estimates and material requisitions.
• Develop and monitor project work schedules and prepare daily, weekly and monthly progress reports.
• Coordinate with consultants, architects, subcontractors and suppliers, and attend technical and site coordination meetings.
• Conduct site inspections, maintain project documentation and enforce HSE standards.
• Monitor resources, identify risks and delays, and support planning, budgeting and cost control.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in civil engineering, structural design and construction project management.
• Experience with structural design review, site supervision, BOQs and project documentation.
• Good understanding of reinforced concrete, structural drawings, bar bending schedules and construction methods.
• Willingness to travel to project sites and work in various site conditions.

Required skills

• AutoCAD, Civil 3D or similar design and project management tools.
• Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Word and Project.
• Knowledge of local building regulations, engineering codes and construction safety requirements.
