Chief Accountant – Pharma Industry

About the role

The Chief Accountant will safeguard the integrity of CVPeople Tanzania’s financial records and ensure statutory compliance within the pharmaceutical sector. Reporting to the Head of Finance, the role drives accurate reporting, treasury management, and continuous improvement of finance processes.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts, annual financial statements, balance‑sheet reconciliations and gross‑margin analysis in line with IFRS.
• Monitor daily bank balances, manage cash transfers, reconcile local and foreign currency accounts, and support financing activities.
• Oversee accounts receivable and payable, including credit limits, ageing analysis, supplier reconciliations and timely payments.
• Process payroll journals, statutory remittances and manage inventory accounting, product costing, goods in transit and periodic stock counts.
• Review branch reconciliations, inter‑company balances and ensure accurate tax schedules for VAT, PAYE, SDL, WHT and corporate income tax.
• Strengthen internal controls, develop finance policies, coordinate internal and external audits and supervise finance staff.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounts, Finance or Commerce.
• Six or more years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a large organization or audit firm.
• Professional qualification such as CPA, ACCA, CIMA or CA is an advantage.
