Business Supervisor – Customs Clearance

About the role

The Business Supervisor (I&E) will lead the company’s customs clearance operations for both import and export activities. You will ensure that shipments are cleared efficiently, comply with all regulations, and reach their destinations on time.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the end‑to‑end customs clearance process, guaranteeing timely and compliant import/export handling.
• Prepare and sort all required documentation for customs declarations, inspections, storage, and cargo pickup.
• Coordinate with customs authorities, port authorities, shipping lines, and other external stakeholders to facilitate smooth operations.
• Maintain compliance with all relevant customs laws, regulations, and internal policies.
• Manage clearance costs, negotiate with suppliers, and continuously improve processes to reduce logistics expenses and operational risk.
• Build and sustain strong relationships with government agencies and external partners.
• Lead, train, and supervise the customs clearance team to achieve departmental performance targets.
• Analyze and resolve clearance issues such as inspections, disputes, valuation challenges, and other exceptions.

Required profile

• Certificate, Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Customs Management, Logistics, Supply Chain, International Trade, Business Administration or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience managing customs clearance, preferably in Tanzania.
• Proven track record in handling import and export customs procedures and documentation.
• Familiarity with Tanzanian regulatory bodies (e.g., TRA, TPA, TBS, TMDA, GCLA).
• Strong communication and coordination abilities with government authorities and logistics partners.
• Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills for handling inspections, disputes, and valuation issues.
• Demonstrated leadership and team‑management experience.
• Fluent in written and spoken English.
