Big Data & Machine Learning Specialist – M-Pesa Projects

About the role

Vodafone is looking for a senior data science professional to lead big‑data and advanced machine‑learning initiatives for the M‑Pesa Customer Value Management (CVM) portfolio. You will co‑create ML‑driven products, develop monetisation propositions and deliver actionable insights that support revenue growth and customer experience improvements.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and deploy machine‑learning models on the Big Data platform to address business challenges across M‑Pesa.
• Manage end‑to‑end execution of big‑data monetisation projects, from data extraction (ETL) to go‑to‑market delivery.
• Analyse complex data sets, identify trends and translate findings into business‑ready analytics and recommendations.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders to align ML initiatives with CVM objectives and ensure timely delivery.
• Contribute to the global Vodafone community by sharing best practices and advancing ML capabilities.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in big‑data or data‑science roles.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, AI or a related quantitative field.
• Strong analytical and logical reasoning abilities with excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python and the data‑science ecosystem (pandas, scikit‑learn, etc.).
• Experience with structured data tools such as SQL.
• Hands‑on knowledge of big‑data technologies including Hadoop, Spark and NoSQL databases.
• Ability to design experiments, build ML models and perform ETL processes.
