Backup Waterguard – Hydro Operations

About the role

The Backup Waterguard supports the operation and maintenance of hydro‑electric facilities at the Labay site. Working closely with the Operations and Maintenance team, the Resource Supervisor and the Network Operations Control Center, you will help ensure uninterrupted water supply and safe, efficient dam and conveyance system performance.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain dam, intakes, desander/desilting basin, conveyance line, surge tank and penstock to guarantee reliable water flow.
• Keep intakes free of silt and obstructions; perform weir declogging to maintain smooth inflow.
• Monitor water levels and adjust operations to achieve maximum utilization in line with Water Resource Management standards.
• Conduct routine inspections, troubleshoot minor system issues and report abnormalities to supervisors.
• Apply safety management procedures and protect the environment at the worksite.

Required profile

• High school or vocational graduate.
• Strong observational skills and attention to detail, especially during high‑flow conditions.
• Proactive attitude toward troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis.
• Commitment to safety and environmental protection.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with plant operators, maintenance staff and the NOCC.

Required skills

• Knowledge of hydro facilities, civil structures and water diversion systems.
• Understanding of Water Resource Management standards.
• Experience with system troubleshooting, streamflow/gauging and weir declogging.
• Basic root‑cause analysis (RCA) techniques.
