Agronomy Technician Trainee

About the role

The Agronomy Technician Trainee position is a one‑year fixed‑term program that supports tobacco farmers in Tanzania. You will work directly with growers, providing technical guidance during critical growth stages and helping to meet JTI’s production and quality targets.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor crop performance and farmer compliance with recommended agronomic practices.
• Conduct regular farmer visits to identify challenges early and deliver timely technical support.
• Implement agroforestry, barn, and furnace initiatives, collect accurate data and upload to the Information Management System.
• Prepare weekly and monthly written reports on farmer activities and production forecasts.
• Establish and maintain the required grower base to meet contracting volume and quality needs.
• Support adoption of energy‑efficient technologies and initiatives that reduce greenhouse‑gas emissions.
• Assist programs aimed at eliminating child labor and improving community well‑being.
• Ensure adherence to crop calendar standards and promote regenerative agriculture practices.

Required profile

• University degree in Agriculture, Extension Services or a related field.
• Fluency in English and Swahili (spoken, read and written).
• Practical field experience through an internship in the tobacco industry is an advantage.
• Strong communication and presentation abilities.
• Ability to ride a motorcycle and hold a valid motorcycle driving licence.
