Tax Specialist – Tanzania (East Africa)

About the role

This position is based in Tanzania and forms part of a regional Finance and Tax organisation covering East Africa. The specialist will focus on Tanzania while also supporting tax matters across other assigned East African entities.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate direct and indirect tax compliance for Tanzanian and East African entities, ensuring accurate and timely filings and payments.
• Provide practical tax advice to Finance and operational teams on corporate income tax, VAT, withholding tax, payroll‑related taxes and other local tax matters.
• Monitor local tax developments, identify risks and opportunities, and escalate material issues to Group Tax.
• Coordinate relationships with tax authorities and external advisers, handling audits, assessments, information requests and disputes.
• Maintain tax documentation, compliance calendars and reporting in line with local regulations and Group standards.
• Support implementation of Group transfer‑pricing policies, including intercompany transactions, documentation and related tax matters.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of tax compliance processes and broader regional tax initiatives.

Required profile

• Strong tax background with hands‑on experience in Tanzanian taxation, preferably with exposure to other East African jurisdictions.
• Solid knowledge of corporate and indirect taxes, tax compliance and tax audits.
• Ability to translate complex tax matters into practical, commercially relevant advice.
• Comfortable working closely with finance teams, tax authorities and external advisers within an international Group Tax framework.
