Finance Director – Donor‑Funded Project (Tanzania)

About the role

The Finance Director will lead all financial management activities for a donor‑funded project in Tanzania, working closely with country office finance teams and regional staff. The role ensures cost‑conscious, compliant operations and maintains an on‑site accounting system to support effective project delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee budgeting, financial planning, and expenditure monitoring, preparing monthly and donor‑required financial reports using QuickBooks.
• Maintain and administer an on‑site accounting and bookkeeping system, reconcile project accounts, and manage cash advances and petty cash.
• Establish and enforce financial controls, ensuring compliance with donor terms, Jhpiego policies, IPSAS and GAAP standards.
• Provide guidance and capacity‑building to regional finance staff on procurement, travel, and inventory management.
• Mentor a team of finance professionals to achieve rapid and sustainable results.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field and CPA certification.
• 9‑10 years of experience managing finances for large, complex international development projects (>$10 M), including at least five years in senior‑level donor‑funded roles.
• Proven supervisory experience and ability to work with USG or other major donors.
• Strong knowledge of IPSAS, GAAP, and grant contract management.
