Chief Accountant – Pharma Industry (Dar es Salaam)

About the role

CVPeople Tanzania is seeking a full‑time Chief Accountant to lead the finance function for its pharma operations in Dar es Salaam. The role reports to the Head of Finance and is responsible for the integrity of financial records, statutory compliance, treasury, and working‑capital management.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts, annual financial statements, balance‑sheet reconciliations and gross‑margin analysis in line with IFRS.
• Monitor daily bank balances, manage inter‑bank transfers, reconcile local and foreign‑currency accounts and support financing activities.
• Oversee accounts receivable and payable, including credit limits, ageing analysis, supplier reconciliations and timely payments.
• Process payroll journals, statutory remittances and manage inventory accounting, including product costing, goods in transit and stock counts.
• Review branch reconciliations and inter‑company balances with principal entities.
• Prepare tax schedules for VAT, PAYE, SDL, WHT and corporate income tax, ensuring timely filing and supporting TRA audits.
• Strengthen internal controls, develop finance policies, coordinate internal/external audits and supervise finance staff.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounts, Finance or Commerce.
• Six (6) years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a large organisation or audit firm.
• Professional qualification such as CPA, ACCA, CIMA or CA is an advantage.

Required skills

• Thorough knowledge of IFRS.
• Advanced Excel proficiency.
• Experience with ERP systems (Oracle, SAP or Ebizframe).
