Assistant Accountant

About the role

The Assistant Accountant will support the finance team by managing cash flow, reconciling client and intermediary accounts, and ensuring timely responses to queries. This role is based in Dar es Salaam and focuses on premium collection, credit control, and commission processing within an insurance environment.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor daily cash flow and enforce cash‑before‑cover policy, handling premium collections and resolving account queries.
• Allocate daily receipts to customer accounts and provide account information to internal departments.
• Perform intermediary reconciliations, ensuring no unreconciled balances older than 30 days and sending monthly statements.
• Collaborate with underwriters on fund receipts to guarantee timely posting.
• Support strategic initiatives related to premium collection and credit control across head office and branches.
• Respond promptly to customer, agency, and regional credit‑control queries.
• Reconcile and pay commission reports by the first week of each month and issue outstanding statements by the 10th.
• Deliver performance targets as defined in the department’s strategy map and balanced scorecard.
• Undertake additional duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or a related field.
• 2–3 years of experience in a similar accounting role.
• Knowledge of insurance regulatory requirements.
• Familiarity with Britam insurance products.
