Country Director

About the role

The Country Director provides strategic leadership for Feed the Children’s Tanzania portfolio, overseeing high‑impact programmes that improve child wellbeing, food security, nutrition and community resilience. Reporting to regional leadership, the Director is the senior representative in‑country, responsible for aligning programme strategy with operational excellence, financial stewardship and accountability.

Key responsibilities

• Lead evidence‑based programme design, adaptive management and scaling across sectors such as school feeding, education, livelihoods, nutrition, WASH and community development.
• Ensure programme quality, safeguarding, gender equity, inclusion and child‑protection standards are embedded in all activities.
• Oversee budgeting, financial reporting and compliance, working closely with the finance team.
• Guide MEAL systems, use data, evaluations and community feedback to drive continuous learning and improvement.
• Build and maintain strategic partnerships with government, donors, communities and other stakeholders to influence policy and expand sustainable programming.
• Provide leadership to the senior management team and supervise all country‑office staff, fostering a high‑performing, locally owned workforce.
• Manage risk, investigations and compliance with safeguarding and organisational policies.

Required profile

• Senior leader with extensive experience managing large‑scale international development or humanitarian programmes.
• Proven track record of strategic planning, financial oversight and results‑oriented programme delivery.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills with governments, donors and community groups.
• Deep understanding of the Tanzanian development context and commitment to child‑focused outcomes.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and promote a culture of learning and accountability.
