Senior Transport Manager – Operations

About the role

The Senior Transport Manager (Operations) will lead the transport function for Dangote Cement Tanzania, overseeing fleet managers, ensuring compliance, and driving efficiency across the truck fleet. This senior position focuses on strategic planning, cost reduction, and maintaining high service standards for customers.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and manage the activities of fleet managers and their teams.
• Ensure trucks comply with operational and maintenance standards and meet customer service expectations.
• Develop strategic plans to improve fleet efficiency, effectiveness, and economy over short, medium, and long terms.
• Identify and recommend actions to reduce fleet operating costs.
• Conduct annual performance appraisals for fleet personnel.
• Supervise truck scheduling, movements, and asset maintenance reporting.
• Participate in designing and aligning the company’s truck fleet management strategy, policies, and procedures.
• Monitor fleet managers to achieve operational synergies and targets.
• Liaise with maintenance units to keep trucks in optimal condition.
• Improve fleet availability and utilization while minimizing downtime.
• Ensure adherence to company regulations and freight transportation laws.
• Proactively identify operational issues and opportunities.
• Oversee recovery of impounded, accidental, or damaged trucks.
• Plan and execute truck replacement schedules.
• Stay updated on logistics and transportation regulations.
• Identify training needs and coordinate employee development.
• Participate in safety committee meetings and prepare regular operational reports.

Required profile

• Proven experience in managing transport or fleet operations.
• Strong leadership skills to supervise fleet managers and teams.
• Ability to develop and implement strategic fleet plans.
• Knowledge of transport regulations and compliance requirements.
• Experience in performance appraisal and staff development.
• Analytical skills to monitor costs and operational performance.
