Survey Technician

About the role

The Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is looking for a Survey Technician to support underground mining operations. You will work closely with the Mine Surveyor to ensure accurate survey data, maintain control points, and contribute to safe and efficient mine development.

Key responsibilities

• Follow all safety procedures, attend mandatory safety courses, wear required PPE, and report incidents.
• Record fired rounds and monitor development trends for active mining headings.
• Set up DGPS base stations and compile survey data for easy retrieval.
• File survey station reports and stakeout plans accurately.
• Position and place survey stations as directed by the Mine Surveyor.
• Conduct regular stock‑taking of survey consumables and maintain minimum inventory.
• Install grade pins, lasers, stations, and perform hole mark‑ups (EH, PH, face).
• Assist with instrument setup, battery management, and daily vehicle inspections.
• Liaise with Maintenance for defect reporting and service scheduling.
• Perform borehole surveys for production holes (downhole and uphole).

Required profile

• Survey Technician’s Certificate or equivalent qualification in Geomatics, Cartography, Civil Engineering, or Mining Survey.
• Minimum 2 years experience in underground mining surveying.
• Proven ability to work in an underground environment and follow strict safety protocols.
• Fluent written and spoken English.

Required skills

• DGPS base setup and operation.
• Conventional surveying methods and equipment handling.
• Use of lasers, grade pins, and survey stations.
• Battery management for electronic survey tools.
• Basic MS Office proficiency.
• Drone pilot licence (preferred).
