Senior Plant Metallurgist

About the role

Perseus Mining (Tanzania) Limited is looking for a Senior Plant Metallurgist to provide technical leadership and support across its processing operations. The role reports to the Metallurgical Superintendent and is responsible for driving continuous improvement, ensuring safety and environmental compliance, and meeting production and recovery targets.

Key responsibilities

• Champion a zero‑harm safety culture and ensure all metallurgical activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Lead incident investigations related to processing operations and translate learnings into actionable improvements.
• Provide strong leadership, coaching, and technical guidance to metallurgical and laboratory teams, fostering a high‑performance culture.
• Develop and deliver structured training programs, mentorship, and performance management for team capability growth.
• Produce timely and accurate metallurgical reports for site leadership and corporate stakeholders.
• Oversee metallurgical test work, plant trials, and data analysis to support operational improvement and cost optimisation.
• Collaborate with Processing Superintendent, Maintenance, and Technical Services to align metallurgical performance with production targets.
• Monitor key metallurgical KPIs, implement corrective actions, and drive process optimisation initiatives.
• Support commissioning, ramp‑up, and optimisation activities to achieve stable and efficient operations.
• Identify and implement process improvements that increase throughput, recovery, and cost efficiency.

Required profile

• Proven experience in senior metallurgical roles within mining or industrial production environments.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop technical teams.
• Strong commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent communication skills for clear goal setting, performance feedback, and cross‑functional collaboration.
• Ability to plan workforce needs, including succession planning and skills development.
