Senior Laboratory Chemist - Mineral Analytical & Metallurgical Lab

About the role

Blue Recruits is recruiting a Senior Laboratory Chemist for the Mineral Analytical and Metallurgical Laboratory in Shinyanga, Tanzania. The post reports to the Plant Manager and covers the technical operation, analytical accuracy, QA/QC and daily supervision of the mineral laboratory, including sample preparation, AAS analysis, Fire Assay, Aqua Regia and metallurgical test work. It also involves training junior staff and upholding ISO/IEC 17025 standards.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise daily lab operations, sample preparation and the analytical workflow
• Perform or oversee Fire Assay and Aqua Regia analysis with AAS finish
• Maintain QA/QC: standards, blanks, duplicates, CRMs, and investigate failures
• Run bottle roll and column leach metallurgical test work
• Review analytical data, prepare reports and keep accurate records
• Maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot AAS and other lab instruments
• Enforce lab safety, chemical handling and PPE compliance
• Train and supervise junior technicians and lab assistants

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry or Metallurgy
• Minimum 5 years in mineral analytical laboratories (ISO-certified labs such as SGS, MSA, Minoplex, Alfred H. Knight preferred)
• Experience supervising lab staff and running metallurgical leach tests
• Attention to detail, integrity and analytical accuracy; leadership, training ability and independent problem solving
• Able to work under pressure to meet turnaround requirements
