Senior Finance Officer – Donor‑Approved Position

About the role

The Senior Finance Officer will support Jhpiego programmes by ensuring sound financial management, risk mitigation and compliance with donor, university and U.S. regulations. Working closely with program managers and senior leadership, the officer will oversee budgeting, reporting and audit preparation for projects based in Tanzania.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and review annual project budgets for accuracy, completeness and donor compliance.
• Identify, assess and mitigate financial and operational risks, ensuring implementation of risk‑mitigation plans.
• Review QuickBooks transactions, prepare monthly financial reports and donor‑specific reports.
• Monitor project expenditures, projections, accruals and burn rates; flag red‑flags to program staff.
• Ensure purchase orders and advances are cleared within 30 days and report outstanding items.
• Coordinate internal and external audits, prepare schedules and follow up on audit recommendations.
• Conduct spot checks and desk reviews of payments and activity implementation.
• Support smooth project close‑out and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in finance, accounting or related field.
• Proven experience in financial management for donor‑funded projects.
• Strong knowledge of procurement, inventory management and sub‑recipient monitoring.
• Familiarity with U.S. anti‑terrorism and disbursement regulations.
• Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
