Senior Accountant – Hospitality & Entertainment

About the role

Shugulika Africa Limited is seeking a Senior Accountant to lead its finance function in Dar es Salaam. The role involves overseeing accounting operations, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements within the hospitality and entertainment sector.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and supervise the General Ledger, ensuring accurate recording of all financial transactions.
• Prepare monthly management accounts, balance‑sheet reconciliations and assist in the preparation of annual financial statements.
• Support internal and external audits by providing complete and accurate documentation.
• Oversee daily cash reconciliations, monitor cash collections, manage bank reconciliations and assist with cash‑flow forecasting.
• Track accounts receivable, follow up on corporate, event and sponsorship receivables, and produce debtor ageing reports.
• Supervise supplier account reconciliations, review payment schedules and verify balances before processing payments.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis and departmental performance reporting.
• Ensure compliance with statutory, tax and regulatory obligations.
• Lead, mentor and supervise the Payables Accountant and Cashiers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Professional qualification such as CPA (T), ACCA or CIMA is highly preferred.
• Minimum five (5) years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a senior role with staff supervision.
• Experience in hospitality, retail, entertainment or service industries is an advantage.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of financial reporting and general ledger management.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with accounting systems/software.
