Rigger – Mining Lifting Specialist

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Rigger to join our mining operations in Tanzania. You will be responsible for ensuring safe and efficient lifting activities across the site, supporting our commitment to zero harm and sustainable mining practices.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct rigging studies for all lifting activities on the mine.
• Maintain and monitor crane wire ropes, rigging, and related equipment.
• Ensure maintenance, repair, and inspection of lifting gears in line with statutory provisions.
• Develop and enforce SOPs for continuous lifting and lowering operations.
• Keep legal registers for cranes, hoists, scaffolds, slings, and other lifting gear up‑to‑date.
• Clean, measure, and dress steel wire ropes and chains used on lifting equipment.
• Fabricate, set up, and repair rigging, hoists, and pulling gear using hand and power tools.
• Select appropriate cables, pulleys, and winches based on load weight and site conditions.
• Signal and direct workers during hoisting to ensure safety of personnel and materials.
• Perform multi‑point suspension techniques to maneuver loads around obstacles.
• Develop future Riggers/Ropesmen according to the North Mara succession plan.

Required profile

• Secondary School Education Certificate.
• Qualified Rigger with a Trade Certificate from a recognized institution.
• VETA Driving Certificate and a valid Tanzanian Class B, C, D, or E licence (manual transmission).
• Minimum 3 years post‑qualification experience as a rigger or ropesman.
• Sound knowledge of mining safety regulations, OSHAS and MHSA standards.
