Program Officer, Human Rights Monitoring

About the role

The Program Officer, Human Rights Monitoring will lead the collection, analysis and documentation of gender‑sensitive information on human rights violations, and support the implementation of monitoring programmes to ensure timely and effective responses.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, analyse and document gender‑sensitive data on human rights violations through the Haki Kiganjani platform.
• Conduct ad‑hoc fact‑finding missions and follow‑up sessions on violations as needed.
• Recruit, train and mentor female human‑rights monitors, focusing on gender balance.
• Provide gender‑sensitive capacity‑building for monitors and develop mechanisms to recognise exemplary work.
• Produce and disseminate printed and visual materials, and develop radio and TV content on Haki Kiganjani.
• Ensure victims receive legal‑aid services and that programme outputs are achieved on schedule.
• Prepare regular programme reports and monitor resources, activities and results.
• Carry out monthly, quarterly, semi‑annual and annual assessments and use M&E findings for continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Law (LL.B) and postgraduate qualification in legal practice.
• Minimum three years experience in human‑rights projects and legal‑aid service delivery.
• Advocate of high court or subordinate courts is an advantage.
• High energy, flexible, able to multitask and work independently in complex environments.
• Strong team orientation, relationship‑building and negotiation abilities.
• Passion for the organisation’s mission, vision and values.
