Packaging Operator

About the role

The Packaging Operator is responsible for safely operating, monitoring and optimizing packaging equipment in an FMCG manufacturing environment. The role ensures production, quality, safety and efficiency targets are met while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor manual and automated packaging machines according to standard operating procedures and VPO standards.
• Maintain a safe, healthy work environment by adhering to safety standards, reporting hazards and participating in risk assessments.
• Record production data, waste, downtime and product movements accurately using the designated systems.
• Identify equipment abnormalities, perform mechanical/electrical troubleshooting and implement corrective actions.
• Conduct quality inspections, monitor product specifications and react to out‑of‑spec results using VPO tools.
• Drive continuous improvement by analysing performance trends, reducing waste and implementing sustainable corrective actions.

Required profile

• Strong commitment to safety and quality standards.
• National Diploma (N4) or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering; technical qualifications are advantageous.
• Experience operating packaging equipment in an FMCG manufacturing setting.
• Ability to work independently, take initiative and meet production targets under pressure.
• Analytical mindset with proven problem‑solving and root‑cause analysis skills.
