Metallurgy Engineer (Level 3) – Process Plant

About the role

The Engineer 3 – Metallurgy will lead the metallurgical and technical activities of an assigned section of a gold processing plant. Reporting to the Superintendent‑2 – Process Technical, the role provides day‑to‑day technical assistance to production and maintenance, drives continuous‑improvement projects and ensures the section contributes to overall plant recovery, throughput and efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Provide discipline‑specific technical support to optimise plant performance and resource recovery.
• Analyse process and ore‑characteristics data and assess their impact on recovery, throughput and operating costs.
• Identify inefficiencies and develop optimisation opportunities through structured test‑work programmes.
• Develop, implement and maintain SOPs and control philosophies for the assigned section.
• Lead or participate in root‑cause analysis (RCA/ICAM) and corrective‑action plans (CAP/CAPA) for process deviations.
• Coordinate with mining, geology, maintenance, laboratory and other process sections to align findings with plant operations.
• Prepare technical reports, KPI trend analyses, project updates and presentations for senior management.
• Support annual budgeting and cost control for reagents, consumables, energy and maintenance inputs.
• Ensure data integrity and timely reporting of process, metallurgical and reconciliation data.

Required profile

• Senior‑level metallurgical engineering experience, preferably in gold comminution and hydrometallurgy.
• Proven ability to analyse plant performance, identify gaps and implement optimisation initiatives across the full flowsheet.
• Strong analytical mindset with experience in data‑driven decision making.

Required skills

• Comminution (crushing, SAG/ball milling) and cyclone classification optimisation.
• Hydrometallurgy of gold – carbon‑in‑leach (CIL) and carbon‑in‑pulp (CIP) circuit management.
• Ore hardness, competency and grindability assessment.
• Process data analysis, KPI reporting and budgeting.
• Root‑cause analysis, corrective‑action planning and SOP development.
• Cyanide handling and leach circuit performance monitoring.
