Logistics Handling Operations Operator – Customs & Compliance

About the role

The Logistics Handling Operations Operator will support customs advisory, documentation and clearance processes for inbound and outbound shipments in Tanzania. The role ensures compliance with local regulations while coordinating with internal teams and government authorities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide up‑to‑date customs advisory and regulatory support to customer service and stakeholders.
• Prepare, review and submit accurate customs declarations for import, export, transit and bonded shipments.
• Liaise with customs and regulatory agencies such as TRA, TANESW, UCR, OGA, TBS, GCLA, ATOMIC, TFDA.
• Advise clients on duty, tax implications, exemptions and compliance requirements.
• Manage customs entries, bonds and ensure timely cancellation to avoid financial exposure.
• Investigate and resolve declaration discrepancies and clearance challenges.
• Monitor changes in customs legislation and maintain compliance monitoring.
• Collaborate with operations, transport, warehousing and other departments to gather information for smooth clearance.
• Validate shipment data and supporting documents before submission.
• Maintain records in the Transport Management System (TMS) with accurate status updates.
• Identify process improvements to reduce clearance timelines and enhance service quality.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of Tanzanian customs regulations and clearance procedures.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to verify documentation accuracy.
• Proactive problem‑solving skills and ability to work with multiple stakeholders.
• Effective communication skills for client advisory and authority liaison.
