Individual Consultant – Expedited

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) seeks an Individual Consultant on an expedited basis to support population mobility mapping in Ngara District, Kagera Region, Tanzania. The assignment will contribute to the preparedness and response to the ongoing Bundibugyo Ebola Virus Disease outbreak by providing evidence‑based insights on cross‑border movement.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement rapid mobility mapping activities at Kabanga and Rusumo one‑stop border posts and selected informal crossing points.
• Collect, validate and analyse quantitative and qualitative data on traveller profiles, routes, congregation sites and health‑seeking behaviours.
• Produce maps, dashboards and analytical reports that identify high‑risk mobility corridors and vulnerable population groups.
• Coordinate with Ngara District Council, health authorities, UN partners and local communities to ensure data relevance and operational use.
• Provide recommendations to strengthen surveillance, screening and public‑health interventions at formal and informal borders.

Required profile

• Proven experience in migration, population mobility, or public‑health fieldwork in East Africa.
• Ability to work independently in challenging, cross‑border environments.
• Strong analytical, reporting and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of Swahili is an advantage.
