General Accountant

About the role

We are looking for a General Accountant to maintain accurate and timely accounting records for our operations, ensuring compliance with IFRS, local statutory requirements and group accounting policies. The role supports financial integrity, regulatory compliance and provides reliable financial information for management reporting, audits and decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the general ledger, post journal entries, accruals, provisions and perform month‑end, quarter‑end and year‑end close in line with group timelines.
• Prepare statutory financial statements in accordance with IFRS and local regulations, and support consolidation and group reporting.
• Manage internal and external audit processes, prepare audit schedules and address audit queries.
• Perform balance‑sheet reconciliations, monitor prepaid expenses, accruals and provisions to ensure true and fair financial position.
• Process and reconcile intercompany transactions, ensure compliance with transfer pricing and resolve intercompany differences.
• Ensure accurate data capture in ERP systems, support system upgrades and maintain master data integrity.
• Collaborate with management accounting, credit, treasury and commercial teams, providing accounting insights and guidance.
• Coach junior accounting staff, share best practices and support succession planning.

Required profile

• Diploma in accounting, finance or related field; Bachelor’s degree or professional qualification (CA(SA), CPA, ACCA) advantageous.
• 3–5 years of experience in financial or general accounting, preferably in regulated or multi‑entity environments.
• Experience with media, broadcasting, telecommunications or subscription‑based businesses is a plus.
• Exposure to African markets or multi‑currency environments preferred.
