Director of Empowerment & Accountability

About the role

The Legal and Human Rights Centre (LHRC) seeks a Director of Empowerment & Accountability to lead its short‑term (7‑month) programme in Dar es Salaam. The role will guide strategic initiatives that raise public awareness of legal and human rights, strengthen community control over rights, and improve accountability among stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic plans aligned with LHRC’s objectives to promote empowerment and accountability.
• Provide visionary leadership to the Empowerment and Accountability team, fostering innovation and collaboration.
• Design, implement, and evaluate programmes that enable marginalized communities to claim their rights and access justice.
• Establish and maintain partnerships with civil‑society organisations, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
• Support advocacy and policy reform efforts to strengthen accountability mechanisms.
• Deliver training and capacity‑building for staff, partners, and community members on empowerment strategies and human‑rights principles.
• Lead the development of monitoring and evaluation frameworks and use data to improve programme effectiveness.
• Identify funding opportunities and contribute to fundraising and financial management.
