Construction Manager

About the role

A client, a construction company based in Arusha, is looking for a qualified Construction Manager. The role oversees and directs construction projects from conception to completion, reviews them to schedule deliverables and estimate costs, and monitors onsite and offsite work against building and safety regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Schedule projects in logical steps within budget and time limits, and determine labour needs and dispatch workers to sites.
• Inspect and review projects to ensure compliance with building and safety codes and other regulations.
• Explain plans and contract terms to administrative staff, workers and clients, and represent the owner or developer.
• Prepare contracts, negotiate revisions and changes with architects, consultants, clients, suppliers and subcontractors, and obtain all necessary permits and licences.
• Direct and supervise workers, study job specifications to choose construction methods, and select and oversee specialists such as painters and plumbers.
• Requisition supplies and materials, prepare budget estimates, progress and cost tracking reports, and develop quality control programmes.
• Handle delays, bad weather and emergencies, investigate damage, accidents or delays, and resolve disputes with supervisors, owners, contractors and design professionals.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in construction, civil engineering or quantity surveying.
• At least 6 years of experience managing construction companies, with proof that the companies managed were profitable.
• Registered and certified with relevant bodies in Tanzania.
• Track record of honesty and integrity that can be validated.
