Chief Operating Officer (COO)

About the role

The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Tanzania, a professional association of internal audit practitioners founded in 2007 and affiliated with the global IIA, is looking for a Chief Operating Officer based in Dar es Salaam. Reporting directly to the CEO, the COO oversees day-to-day operations, develops and implements operational strategies and ensures smooth internal processes. The role suits a leader with a strong operational background and experience managing a member-based or non-profit organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and oversee all operational aspects of the institute, aligned with its strategic goals
• Develop, implement and continuously improve operational systems, processes and policies
• Work with the CEO and management team on strategic initiatives and priorities
• Coordinate daily operations across Administration, Membership, marketing, Finance, IT and other departments
• Monitor operational performance metrics and use data to improve efficiency and member satisfaction
• Maintain relationships with members, partners and stakeholders
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices
• Build and lead a high-performing team

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience of 5+ years, preferably in a member-based, non-profit or service organisation
• Bachelor's degree in business administration, management or a related field (MBA preferred)
• Age 35 and above; men are encouraged to apply
• Experience in internal auditing, financial management and budgeting
