Bundibugyo Virus Disease (BVD) Preparedness Officer

About the role

The World Health Organization is seeking a Bundibugyo Virus Disease (BVD) Preparedness Officer to support Tanzania’s Zanzibar region in strengthening readiness for potential BVD importation. Based in Zanzibar, the officer will work under the WHO Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) Team Lead and the WHO Liaison Officer for Zanzibar, providing technical and operational assistance across multiple public‑health pillars.

Key responsibilities

• Support the implementation of the BVD preparedness workplan at national and district levels.
• Assist with surveillance, laboratory readiness, infection prevention and control, case management, logistics, risk communication, community engagement, and Points of Entry activities.
• Monitor and follow up on preparedness actions, maintain activity trackers and dashboards, and prepare weekly updates and monthly progress reports.
• Participate in field missions, supportive supervision visits, simulation exercises, drills, and preparedness reviews.
• Help organize training workshops, prepare materials, provide logistical support, and mentor Ministry of Health staff.
• Document lessons learned, draft mission and situation reports, and contribute to partner coordination meetings.
