Assistant Fire Protection Engineer

About the role
As a Cluster Assistant Fire Protection Engineer you will support and coordinate fire protection initiatives across TUI owned hotel properties in Zanzibar. Reporting to the Maintenance Director and Health & Safety Manager, you will ensure that fire and life‑safety systems operate reliably while maintaining guest comfort.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee fire‑fighting systems (sprinklers, hose reels, landing valves, fire pumps) and fire‑alarm systems (addressable and conventional).
- Maintain emergency and exit lighting, smoke detectors, and fire‑suppression equipment 24/7.
- Monitor alarms, faults and panel indications; trigger timely corrective actions.
- Plan, coordinate and supervise installation, testing and commissioning of fire‑protection upgrades.
- Lead civil‑defence and authority inspections, obtain approvals and keep certifications up to date.
- Ensure compliance with local fire & life‑safety codes, hotel brand standards and company policies.
- Collaborate with hotel engineering, MEP, civil teams and external contractors while minimizing guest disturbance.
- Assist in fire drills, evacuation exercises and staff training on fire safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, events and generate regular reports for management and auditors.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Proven experience with fire‑protection systems in hotels, hospitality or high‑end commercial buildings.
- Hands‑on experience in testing, commissioning and authority inspections.
- Familiarity with operational, guest‑occupied environments is highly preferred.
