Senior Transport Manager

About the role

We are seeking a senior transport professional to lead the management, utilization and profitability of a steel manufacturer’s vehicle fleet. The role involves overseeing heavy commercial vehicles, drivers, fuel and maintenance costs, and identifying third‑party transport opportunities to generate additional revenue.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the entire fleet of trucks and commercial vehicles, planning allocations to meet internal transport needs while maximising utilisation.
• Maintain daily schedules showing vehicle status and location, monitoring each truck from dispatch through delivery and return.
• Coordinate with Sales, Stores, Dispatch, Procurement and Operations to ensure timely vehicle availability.
• Identify and develop external customers for third‑party transport services, negotiating rates within approved limits.
• Build and maintain relationships with businesses requiring bulk or construction material transportation.
• Recruit, supervise, discipline and manage drivers in line with company policies.
• Control fuel consumption, transport costs and oversee vehicle maintenance planning and workshop management.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Transport & Logistics, Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain Management or a related field.
• 8–10 years of experience in fleet and transport management, preferably in heavy‑vehicle environments.
• Strong knowledge of Tanzanian road networks, major transport routes and applicable regulations.
• Valid driving licence for heavy vehicles (advantageous).
