Senior Technical Officer – Supply Chain & Customs Clearance

About the role

The Senior Technical Officer provides strategic leadership and end‑to‑end oversight of importation, customs clearance, logistics and final delivery of donor‑funded health commodities across Tanzania. The role ensures compliance with USG, Government of Tanzania, Global Fund and other donor requirements while coordinating with ministries, regulatory agencies and third‑party logistics providers.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the importation and customs clearance process for health commodities, securing tax and duty exemptions, import permits and product registrations.
• Maintain working relationships with the Ministry of Health, TMDA, TRA, TBS and other authorities to expedite approvals and resolve clearance issues.
• Monitor shipment status, delivery dates and regulatory approvals, identifying and mitigating risks that could cause delays.
• Coordinate temperature‑sensitive commodity handling, ensuring cold‑chain compliance and proper documentation.
• Prepare and present supply‑chain reports, dashboards and updates to donors, government stakeholders and implementing partners.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, procurement, logistics, public health or related field (Master’s preferred).
• Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in health logistics, importation, customs clearance or distribution of health commodities.
• Experience supporting large‑scale donor‑funded programs (USG/PEPFAR, Global Fund) and supervising junior staff.
