Safety Officer (Mining)

About the role

The Safety Officer will support the implementation of Barrick's Occupational Health and Safety Management System at North Mara Mine, ensuring compliance with company standards and applicable legislation. This role provides high‑visibility safety support to all mine departments, contractors and business partners.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in implementing the NMGML Occupational Health and Safety Management System and ISO 45001:2018 at North Mara Mine.
• Support the Safety Supervisor in ensuring all mine activities meet safety and health standards.
• Maintain equipment maintenance records, pre‑start checks and fault reporting systems.
• Facilitate baseline risk assessments, Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) and Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRA).
• Conduct regular safety inspections, observations and PPE compliance checks.
• Assist with accident/incident investigations using approved methodologies.
• Develop and deliver safety training packages for workforce and contractors.
• Prepare weekly, monthly and annual safety statistics and trend reports.

Required profile

• Experience supporting safety programs in a mining or industrial environment.
• Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and standards.
• Ability to conduct risk assessments, safety inspections and incident investigations.
• Excellent communication skills for coaching, reporting and training delivery.
