Real Sector Statistics Advisor – AFRITAC East (Dar es Salaam)

About the role

The Statistics Department (STA) of the International Monetary Fund and the African Regional Technical Assistance Center in East Africa (AFRITAC East) are hiring a Real Sector Statistics Advisor (RSSA) based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The RSSA will lead capacity‑development activities for real‑sector statistics across eight East African countries, supporting national accounts, price indices and related data production.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement an annual work programme for statistical capacity development in national accounts, price statistics and other real‑sector domains.
• Coordinate capacity‑development activities with IMF departments, international institutions and bilateral agencies providing technical assistance.
• Conduct country missions and deliver regional training on national accounts and price statistics, and back‑stop missions led by short‑term experts.
• Apply IMF standards, STA guidelines and document all capacity‑development actions in the CDMAP IT portal.
• Monitor progress, evaluate outcomes and prepare reports for the AFRITAC East Steering Committee and other outreach initiatives.

Required profile

• At least ten years of professional experience in national accounts methodology and compilation.
• Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in economics, statistics or a related field.
• Expert knowledge of national accounts statistics; familiarity with other macro‑economic statistical frameworks is an asset.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
• Strong relationship‑management, negotiation and influencing abilities for working with national authorities.
• Proven ability to organise and coordinate technical assistance and training programmes across multiple institutions.
