Project Director - Tanzania (GBV Prevention Program)

About the role

Global Communities is seeking a senior Project Director to lead the design, piloting, and national rollout of a community‑based gender‑based violence (GBV) prevention program in Tanzania. The role will coordinate four technical strands—formative research, curriculum adaptation, training of trainers, and monitoring, evaluation, and learning—working closely with government ministries and the World Bank.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and strategic direction across all four technical strands, ensuring technical excellence and adherence to gender equality, social inclusion, and safeguarding standards.
• Oversee the adaptation of the Bandebereho curriculum, pilot implementation in two councils, and quality‑assured scaling to fifteen councils.
• Manage a multidisciplinary team of staff, consultants, and partners, ensuring timely and high‑quality delivery of all project outputs.
• Coordinate with the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, the Prime Minister’s Office, and the PAMOJA Project Implementation Unit, serving as the primary liaison with the donor and other key stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with Global Communities, World Bank, and Tanzanian government regulations, and maintain fiscal integrity of program funds.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Development Studies or a related field.
• Minimum eight years of experience managing GBV prevention or community‑based development programs, including at least two similar project director roles.
• Proven experience implementing Bandebereho‑type or couples‑based interventions in Tanzania or Sub‑Saharan Africa.
• Demonstrated ability to engage government ministries, local authorities, and a wide range of stakeholders.
• Track record of published work and experience with international donors such as the World Bank.

Required skills

• Experience with randomized control trials (RCTs) or similar rigorous evaluation methods.
• Ability to translate formative research findings into adapted program materials for community‑based GBV prevention.
