Programme Manager – Selous Conservation Programme

About the role

The Programme Manager will lead the Selous Conservation Programme (SCP), a partnership between the Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS) and the Tanzania Wildlife Authority (TAWA) aimed at strengthening protected‑area management in Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania. The role is responsible for delivering a results‑driven programme that improves law‑enforcement, ecological monitoring, infrastructure and institutional capacity across a remote, complex landscape.

Key responsibilities

• Support Selous Game Reserve management in defining and implementing protected‑area priorities, management plans and annual operational plans.
• Strengthen law‑enforcement and patrol operations, including resource protection and ecological monitoring.
• Plan, coordinate and resource field activities, infrastructure, equipment procurement and logistics.
• Ensure financial integrity through budgeting, forecasting, expenditure oversight and timely reporting.
• Provide line management, mentoring and performance oversight to the SCP team.
• Maintain strong relationships with government authorities, partners and stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing large‑scale conservation or protected‑area programmes in Africa or similar contexts.
• Demonstrated ability to work in remote, multi‑stakeholder environments.
• Strong understanding of protected‑area management functions such as law enforcement, ecological monitoring and infrastructure development.
• Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
