Programme Manager – Nyerere Conservation Programme

About the role

The Programme Manager will lead the Nyerere Conservation Programme (NCP), a partnership between FZS and the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) aimed at strengthening protected‑area management in Nyerere National Park. Working in a remote, complex environment, you will provide strategic, technical, financial and operational oversight to ensure the programme supports effective park management and long‑term ecosystem sustainability.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with NNP management to define and implement protected‑area management priorities.
• Strengthen law‑enforcement support, patrol operations and resource protection systems.
• Support development and implementation of park management plans and annual operational plans.
• Oversee ecological monitoring and management‑effectiveness systems.
• Maintain strong relationships with TANAPA, government bodies, donors and NGOs.
• Represent the programme in coordination and policy forums.
• Manage donor‑funded conservation activities and institutional capacity‑building initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven experience in protected‑area or wildlife conservation programme management.
• Demonstrated ability to work with government agencies, donors and multiple NGOs.
• Strong understanding of Tanzanian conservation policies and park management frameworks.
• Excellent leadership, coordination and communication skills.

Required skills

• Experience with law‑enforcement support and patrol coordination.
• Knowledge of ecological monitoring methodologies.
• Ability to manage donor‑funded projects and budgets.
