Mine Closure Consultant

About the role

We are seeking a Mine Closure Consultant to support mining projects across Tanzania and the wider East Africa region. The role involves delivering practical, regulatory‑compliant mine closure solutions, including planning, liability assessments, de‑commissioning and rehabilitation.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct mine closure liability assessments aligned with regulatory requirements and international best practices.
• Develop mine closure strategies, plans, policies and procedures.
• Prepare future land‑use plans for post‑mining environments.
• Provide technical guidance to clients on closure planning and implementation.
• Review closure strategies and cost estimates and produce technical reports.
• Manage closure‑related project plans to guide de‑commissioning and rehabilitation activities.
• Monitor and evaluate closure and rehabilitation plans throughout the mine life‑cycle.
• Ensure project administration meets time, budget and quality standards.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and internal multidisciplinary teams.
• Conduct fieldwork at mining operations, including remote locations.
• Prepare technical inputs for de‑commissioning plans as part of Environmental Impact Assessment processes.
• Participate in the development, engagement and approval of Mine Closure Plans in coordination with national mining authorities.

Required profile

• Strong technical expertise in mine closure and rehabilitation.
• Proven project management experience.
• Ability to work closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients and regulatory authorities.
• Interest in solving complex environmental challenges and supporting responsible mining in Africa.
