Mechanical and Rotating Machine Lead Engineer

About the role

This senior‑level position supports a major oil and gas infrastructure project across Tanzania and Uganda, focusing on rotating machinery, static equipment and mechanical integrity throughout engineering, construction, commissioning and maintenance phases.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for pumps, compressors, motors, fans, blowers, seals, bearings, lubrication systems and packaged equipment.
• Oversee equipment reliability, fitness‑for‑service assessments and safe delivery in a multi‑contract environment.
• Review and approve ITPs, method statements, repair procedures, NCR dispositions, FAT/SAT and mechanical completion documentation.
• Coordinate installation, alignment, balancing, testing, troubleshooting and acceptance of rotating and static equipment.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve time‑critical technical decisions on site.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent recognised qualification.
• Typically 12 + years of experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, pipeline or hydrocarbon‑facility environments.
• Proven senior or lead mechanical engineering experience covering design, construction, commissioning, operations or maintenance.
• Advanced written and spoken English with strong analytical and problem‑solving capability.

Required skills

• Hands‑on knowledge of rotating and static equipment such as pumps, compressors, motors, fans, blowers, seals, bearings, pressure vessels, tanks, heat exchangers and valves.
• Familiarity with API standards (610, 617, 618, 650, 682, 686) and ASME codes (B31.3, PCC‑1).
• Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, datasheets, P&IDs, general arrangements and vendor documentation.
• Experience with Aconex (or equivalent EDMS) and standard office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.
