About the role
The Legal Officer will support the Head of Legal for Pan‑Africa (Anglophone) by ensuring that Dangote Cement’s operations in Tanzania comply with all applicable laws and internal policies. The role focuses on legal operations of the cement business, covering advisory, contract management, regulatory filings, dispute handling and corporate governance.
Key responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on Tanzanian laws relevant to the cement industry, including the Companies Act, Environmental Management Act, Employment and Labour Relations Act, and Mining Act.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with local and regional regulatory requirements and support group‑wide compliance initiatives.
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts such as supply agreements, service contracts and MoUs; maintain a contract database and manage renewals.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies (e.g., Tanzania Revenue Authority, BRELA) to ensure timely statutory filings and corporate record maintenance.
- Assist in managing disputes—including labour, commercial and environmental matters—by coordinating with external counsel and tracking litigation progress.
- Support board and committee meetings through preparation of resolutions, minutes and compliance reports, and ensure adherence to internal governance frameworks.
- Collaborate with legal teams across other Pan‑African jurisdictions to harmonise practices and provide legal support for regional projects.
- Perform other legal tasks as assigned.
Required profile
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from a recognised university; admission to the Bar in Tanzania is an advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years post‑qualification experience in corporate/commercial law, preferably in manufacturing or extractive sectors.
- Experience working with multinational organisations or Pan‑African operations is desirable.
Required skills
- Strong knowledge of Tanzanian corporate, labour and environmental law.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation and analytical abilities.
- High level of integrity and professional ethics.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across jurisdictions.
- Fluent in Swahili and English.
