Lead Specialist – Blood Lead Testing (Tanzania)

About the role
The Lead Specialist will drive APHL’s laboratory systems strengthening initiative in Tanzania, focusing on establishing and scaling blood lead level testing across the country. This full‑time position works closely with APHL headquarters, local partners, and the Tanzanian Ministry of Health to build sustainable testing capacity.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct capacity assessments of existing laboratories and develop strategic plans for blood lead testing.
- Coordinate sample collection, referral, transportation, and testing using advanced instrumentation.
- Lead workforce development, training, and mentorship of laboratory staff.
- Implement and oversee data management, quality management systems, and reporting mechanisms.
- Engage stakeholders, including the CDC Foundation, MoH, and other ministries, to secure buy‑in and resources.
Required profile
- Advanced degree (MSc, PhD) in clinical chemistry, toxicology, or a related field.
- Extensive laboratory experience in Tanzania, particularly in toxicology and clinical chemistry.
- Proven ability to lead multi‑disciplinary projects and work with governmental and international partners.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
