Laboratory Assistant

About the role

MSA Laboratories (T) Limited is seeking a competent Laboratory Assistant to support its geochemical and mineral analytical services. The role involves handling sample preparation, performing basic analyses, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards in a dynamic laboratory environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in loading, off‑loading, and sorting of samples, including sample rejects and lab splits.
• Prepare samples for analysis by drying, crushing, and pulverising.
• Conduct routine analyses following documented SOPs or recognized reference methods.
• Weigh samples, monitor prep QC results, and report deviations to the Laboratory Supervisor.
• Maintain housekeeping, waste handling, and HSE protocols, including lead‑control measures.
• Communicate any unsafe conditions or non‑conforming events to the appropriate supervisors.
• Support sample movement coordination between laboratory areas.
• Perform other duties as required by management, including occasional lifting up to 25 kg.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, Laboratory Technology or related field.
• 1–2 years of experience in assay laboratories within a commercial mineral or mining context.
• Excellent written and spoken English and Swahili.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal abilities.
• Experience working in multinational, culturally diverse environments.

Required skills

• Familiarity with assay laboratory operations.
• Proficiency in using a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
