Lab Technician

About the role

The Laboratory Technician will work in a hospital clinical laboratory, performing phlebotomy, specimen processing, and analytical testing for patients ranging from neonates to geriatric individuals. The role requires accurate documentation and clear communication with physicians and other care providers.

Key responsibilities

• Draw blood, process specimens, and report test results to ordering physicians.
• Prepare samples for analysis and ensure proper labeling.
• Monitor laboratory procedures, maintain equipment, and troubleshoot as needed.
• Perform ABO/Rh typing, antibody screening, and cross‑matching for the transfusion service.
• Clean and maintain the laboratory environment.
• Communicate findings clearly with attention to detail.

Required profile

• Degree from an accredited 4‑yr or 2‑yr college and completion of an accredited Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Technician program.
• Current registration or eligibility for registration as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP preferred).
• Pass the registration exam within the first year of employment if not already certified.
• At least two years of phlebotomy experience with patients of all ages and analytical specimen processing experience in a hospital setting.
• Flexibility to perform repetitive or varied tasks throughout the day.
• Ability to work independently during call‑back periods and unsupervised hours.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
