Jumbo Operator Trainer

About the role

The Jumbo Operator Trainer will oversee all activities related to the DB Jumbo Operator at Bulyanhulu Gold Mine, ensuring safe, efficient and cost‑effective construction and maintenance of underground infrastructure. Reporting to the Mining Operations Superintendent, the role combines hands‑on equipment work with training and technical support.

Key responsibilities

• Perform pre‑inspection of tram equipment and set up drilling equipment.
• Prepare and mark faces, install ground support and conduct drilling activities.
• Uncouple and remove equipment, keep all machinery clean, and record drilling performance.
• Monitor and control drilling cycles, ensure blasting holes are clean and carry out charging activities.
• Assist in the training and skills development of trainees.
• Report and investigate incidents in line with Barrick requirements.
• Provide technical and field support to improve productivity and reduce costs.

Required profile

• College or technical training equivalent to two years of study.
• Ability to read and understand ground support plans.
• Basic electrical and mechanical knowledge of jumbo rigs.
• Strong oral and written English communication skills.
• Minimum five years’ experience operating single and double‑boom jumbo rigs in large underground mining operations.
• Awareness of Mines Health & Safety Act and ability to work with minimal supervision.
