Hydrogeological Technician

About the role

We are looking for a Hydrogeological Technician to support groundwater investigations and water management for both underground and open‑pit operations at the North Mara Gold Mine. The role involves data collection, modelling, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe and sustainable mine water practices.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct groundwater investigations, including drilling supervision, aquifer testing and piezometer installation.
• Develop and maintain hydrogeological models to support dewatering strategies, water‑balance forecasting and risk assessments.
• Monitor groundwater inflow trends, pore pressure data and water‑quality parameters to guide operational decisions.
• Collaborate with geotechnical, mine planning and environmental teams for integrated water management.
• Advise on water‑related hazards such as breakthrough risk, fill saturation and slope instability.
• Maintain the Groundwater Management Plan in line with regulatory requirements.
• Prepare technical reports, dashboards and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
• Support emergency response planning for water‑related incidents and mentor junior staff.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Hydrogeology, Geology, Environmental Engineering or related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in mining hydrogeology, preferably in both underground and open‑pit settings.
• Valid driving licence and ability to work underground.
• Strong communication skills and a commitment to safety and environmental stewardship.

Required skills

• Proficiency with groundwater modelling software such as MODFLOW and FEFLOW.
• Experience using data analysis tools.
• Familiarity with instrumentation including piezometers, VWPs and water‑level loggers.
