HR Director - People & Culture

About the role

The Director, People & Culture will lead the HR function across three Tanzanian hospitality properties – Mount Kilimanjaro Safari Club, Arumeru River Lodge and Emerson Zanzibar. You will be responsible for delivering HR strategies that drive exceptional employee and guest experiences while supporting the overall business objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end talent acquisition, workforce planning and onboarding for all three properties.
• Manage employee relations matters, including grievances, disciplinary processes, investigations and attendance management.
• Act as the primary HR advisor to operations and departmental leaders, providing guidance on performance management, leadership development and organisational effectiveness.
• Design and implement employee engagement initiatives that strengthen culture and reinforce client values.
• Oversee performance management, goal setting and administration of the Short‑Term Incentive Plan (STIP).
• Direct HR operations across the employee lifecycle – recruitment, contracts, promotions, remuneration changes and exits.
• Lead talent reviews, succession planning and leadership development to ensure continuity and capability.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of strategic HR management, talent acquisition, workforce planning and organisational development.
• Proven experience handling employee relations, investigations, disciplinary processes and conflict resolution.
• Deep understanding of Tanzanian labour legislation and employment practices.
• Excellent stakeholder management, coaching, influencing and communication skills.
• Analytical, planning and problem‑solving capability.
• Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, Psychology, Hospitality Management or related field; postgraduate qualification and professional HR certification (CHRP, CIPD, SHRM) are a plus.
• Minimum 10 years progressive HR experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership or business‑partner capacity.
