Head of People

About the role

WaterAid Tanzania is seeking a senior HR leader to shape and deliver its People Strategy. As a member of the Senior Management Team, you will ensure that the people function supports the organisation’s strategic objectives and growth across Tanzania.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of the People Strategy aligned with WaterAid Tanzania’s goals.
• Provide strategic advice to the Country Director and senior team on workforce planning, talent management and organisational effectiveness.
• Oversee recruitment, performance management, learning and development, employee relations, reward, engagement and succession planning.
• Build organisational and leadership capability through capacity development, change management and fostering a high‑performance culture.
• Ensure compliance with safeguarding, labour legislation, safety and risk‑management standards.
• Manage the People Department budget, HR systems and reporting to support data‑driven decision‑making.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Human Resources, Organisational Psychology, Leadership & Capability Development or a related field, with a recognised HR professional qualification.
• Significant senior‑level HR experience, including leadership of a People/HR function, preferably in an international development or NGO setting.
• Proven expertise in talent acquisition, employee relations, reward, performance management, organisational development, learning and development and employment legislation.
