Gender-Responsive Climate Education Curriculum Consultant (Dar es Salaam)

About the role

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) seeks an experienced consultant to design a gender‑responsive climate education curricular framework for primary and lower‑secondary schools in Tanzania. The role combines curriculum development, policy alignment and stakeholder coordination to embed climate resilience into the national education system.

Key responsibilities

• Produce a gender‑responsive climate education curricular framework for primary and lower‑secondary levels aligned with the Tanzanian National Curriculum.
• Ensure the new framework is harmonised with the existing upper‑secondary framework developed by Room to Read, guaranteeing vertical coherence.
• Collaborate with the Ministry of Education, curriculum agencies and multi‑stakeholder networks to validate and adopt the framework.
• Develop pedagogical resources that integrate climate science, active pedagogy and policy alignment.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum Studies, Climate Change, Environmental Science or related field.
• At least 8 years experience in Tanzania’s education sector and curriculum implementation.
• Minimum 5 years experience in climate‑change education and curriculum development for primary and secondary levels.
• Proven track record of producing curriculum frameworks and pedagogical resources.
• Fluency in English and Swahili; additional UN language is an asset.
